Where You Are

Where You Are

The first of several new works created from the sounds contributed by you, the Music Walk audience.  Cage believed that every sound could be a vessel for beauty. These works celebrate this. The contributions have been made by calling the John Cage phone line, and each message has been transformed to become part of a musical soundscape.

This recalls Cage’s live telephone-line piece Variations VII, made for 9 Evenings of Engineering, a collaboration with Robert Rauschenberg and others in New York in 1966, where the composer arranged to receive live sounds from call boxes across the city,  mixed them and relayed them to his live audience.

We will be creating more pieces over the duration of the Proms, so send us your sound of silence by calling 020 3322 4687.
